US wipes demand to approach $2 billion in 2009.

Demand for wipes in the US is projected to expand through 2009 by six percent annually to $2.0 billion. When the large but slow growing baby wipes market is excluded, wipes demand is forecast to register even stronger growth, exceeding eight percent per annum.

Annual growth in demand for cloth-like general purpose bathing and hand-and-body wipes will exceed ten percent. Sanitation benefits will spur strong demand for disposable bathroom hygiene and adult incontinence.

The Opinion of the General Public

Research conducted by Kimberly-Clark shows that consumers agree that moist methods clean and freshen better than dry toilet paper alone. Their results showed that 63% of respondents have used a moist cleansing method after toileting and one out of four use a moist cleansing method on a daily basis.

The Opinion of Medical Professionals

Wipe Wet

“Besides Pilates, the best thing you can do for your bottom is to wipe wet. Why? If you accidentally got feces all over your hand, would you wash it off or wipe it off with dry toilet paper? Exactly. So why do we wipe ourselves with dry, sandpaper like toilet paper after we go to the bathroom?

While we’re not recommending you install a bidet, you can get the same effect by simply moistening your toilet paper.”
